GA 2002 Report
Greetings, y'all,
Summer Solstice Ritual
We had a standing room only crowd at our "Flower Power Summer Solstice Ritual" on Friday night. We had flower petals all over the floor, and thankful pagans and pagan friendly folks drumming on tables, and continuing chants and dances well past our time slot.
Annual Meeting
- We had the annual meeting Saturday night, Jun 22, 2002 in the lobby of Hotel de Vieux Quebec.. Although more than 20 CUUPS members checked in at the CUUPS booth, we lacked a regular quorum of 5% of the membership. Time conflicts seem to be inevitable at General Assembly. By the bylaws, however, those in attendance at the annual meeting constitute a quorum for hearing reports and for electing nominations & polling committee members, as well as for calling the ballot for board of trustee elections. Those present approved the presidents' report, the financial report and the nominating committee report.
- Presidents' report: Membership is regaining the ground lost post 9/11/01, and Sacred Cosmos II and the next edition of the newsletter are awaiting post GA work and reports to go to press.
- Treasurer's report: The shortfall from calendar year 2001 was made up in January 2002, and we have sufficient funds to mail out ballots and newsletters. The membership director has not been paid since September, but is still doing the work.
- Nominating Committee report: The following were elected to the Polling Committee: Lilith Donovan, Darlene Roberti and James Butler, of the New Orleans chapter. The following were elected to the nominating committee: Rev. Joan Van Becelaere, Denver, CO; Dick Merritt, Hillsborough NC; David Pollard, Arlington TX; Rev. Mary Wellemeyer, Manchester, NH; and Victoria Hammel, Winchester, KY. The nominating committee nominated the following as candidates for the board of trustees: Christy Constable, Charleston, SC; Shari Storm, Boulder CO; Shannon Cocheo, Charlotte, NC; and Kitty Degler, Overland, KS. No other nominations being made, nominations were closed. Three full term board members need to be elected, as well as a board member to fulfill Robin Woodsong's unexpired term.
- Necessary Business: The motion to refer the election to a mail ballot as per bylaws was made by Benjamin Craft-Rendon and seconded by Dick Merritt. This motion passed by acclamation. After a discussion of suggestions for GA programming in Boston, and the need of an announcement-only official CUUPS list, the meeting was adjourned
CUUPS Exhibit Table
As of Sunday night, we raised $430 from the raffle and $105 from donations. We renewed 4 memberships, and got 7 new memberships. I would like to thank the volunteers who helped with manning the booth, especially Niko Tarini, Tamia Buckingham, Sally Amsbury, Mary Wellemeyer, and Dean White. Special thanks to my adult children, Benjamin & Susan Craft-Rendon, because they worked really hard and skipped workshops to help out. Tom Stevens of UUPA was really helpful as well.
Je regret...
I had to fly out of Quebec City at 6:00 am on Mon, Jun 24, and therefore missed the Siberian Creation Story presentation, and the costume Joan spent a year making
